Urban Paisley
This piece began with the discovery of a large piece of original hand-drawn artwork in an antique shop in Jaipur. Measuring over 52 inches (132 cm) long the fragile paper tissue drawing, probably from the 1940s, was from the art archives of a long-closed Jodphuri blockprint workshop. The drawing was 1/2 of the total drawing of a very intense paisley dupatta. After some careful restoration and scanning at high resolution the large-scale paisley motif became the foundation of a series of new designs that blends the bold aesthetics of expressionistic painting and the richness of traditional motifs.
